Christopher M Welch,  Director

 
 Chris Welch received his Master of Dispute Resolution degree from  Pepperdine University School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution in 2005.  Prior to obtaining his Master's Degree, he graduated from Pepperdine University, Seaver College with his B.A. in Political Science.  Chris has been the Director of CCR since Summer 2008.  Chris regularly mediates at the Van Nuys Courthouse, Los Angeles Superior Court, and has facilitated resolutions in various types of cases.  Chris' expanding mediation practice also includes community mediations and telephone conciliations. His peer mediation experience extends all the way back to seventh grade when he was first trained as a mediator while living in Hillsborough, North Carolina. 

 

 Tim Pownall,   Executive Director                                

 A recognized expert in negotiation and collaborative problem solving, William Timothy (Tim) Pownall has mediated hundreds of complex civil, employment/workplace (EEO/ADA/Title VII/WC), insurance, personal injury, business and commercial cases.  Mr. Pownall is known for being a particularly adept mediator in managing those interventions involving high emotion that have resulted in protracted cases or impasse.  Mr. Pownall is known for his hard work and tenacity in bringing mediations to resolution in a timely manner.

 

Mr. Pownall brings knowledge, skill, experience, humor and compassion to not only his mediation casework, but to his impressive faculty/trainer appointments.  He consults and conducts management and staff trainings, courses and workshops in Negotiation, Mediation and Conflict Management skills.  In this capacity, Mr. Pownall has trained nearly ten thousand professionals nationally and internationally in recent years, in various industries,  according to their academic or corporate performance, HR and organizational training requirements.

 

Mr. Pownall is the Executive Director of the Center for Conflict Resolution. The Center is a twenty seven year old enterprise with roots in the Christian Legal Society that provides legal and organizational mediation and facilitation services to the Los Angeles County Superior Court and through CCR's Community Mediation program  to the San Fernando Valley.

 

Currently, the Assistant Director of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law, Malibu, California, recognized as the nation’s foremost academic ADR program by U.S. News, Mr. Pownall serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at the Straus Institute teaching courses and workshops in basic and advanced Negotiation, Mediation and Collaborative Dispute Resolution nationally and internationally.  He is currently the Director of the Pacis Project in Faith Based Diplomacy, sending him throughout the Middle East, helping to  resolve conflict.

Mr. Pownall has served as Senior ADR Consultant and National Accounts Manager with Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (J.A.M.S.), Inc. In that capacity Mr. Pownall provided internal/external training and consultation to the company’s corporate clients in litigation management, cost containment, HR systems design, development and implementation and in-house Dispute Resolution educational programs. Mr. Pownall serves on the mediation panels of the Los Angeles and Ventura County Superior Courts.
